The curious case of Bidston Observatory

SAM_0299The Liverpool Echo is reporting that Bidston Observatory is to be auctioned off with a guide price of £550,000. Funny that, as the building was actually sold last year after spending more than 10 years on the market at £350,000. It is understood the price paid was more like ‘a song’ than 350 large. Wirral property developer Craig Blackwell has made no comment on the matter. What was even more curious was that permission to create flats had lapsed. So this landmark but effectively useless building is now worth in excess of half a mill? Yeah right. Mr Blackwell has also ‘acquired’ Andrew Gibson House in Egremont with grand plans for it.  To facilitate this, the council is giving him a nice parcel of land on the promenade front. As I said last time in relation to proposals for Bidston Observatory – watch this space.
